I not dead certain about this but I'm pretty sure you will not be able to embed album art in wavs but if you have ripped each album to its own folder can you not create an image from the album art called cover.jpg or even folder.jpg (recommended 300x300pixels or maybe 500x500) and put it in the album directory?.
You should not need to change any setting in SlimCenter (but you will need to initiate rescan to see the art) but if you do they are here: SlimCenter > Settings > Advanced > Format. You can compress all your wavs to flac in one hit and then you'll have the no compromise with sound quality, benefit of full tag support and certainly no cover art problems. But you won't be able to use devices that don't support it (usually made by Apple or Microsoft). But I guess you knew that.
