The Boom (like the other SBs) is just a receiver; all the real work is done by SqueezeCenter. Making the Boom a totally independent unit would require a complete redesign, make it bigger, probably require a fan for cooling the processor (thereby introducing all kinds of problems keeping the sound quality decent), and make it much more expensive. It would be a wholly different product from anything in the SB line. It's like wanting to put wings on a car and make it fly; it's conceivable, but would require radically different engineering from what it is now. Nothing about the current design makes it possible to just plug in a USB drive and go.
But the Boom does have an input jack. You can plug any old MP3 player into it and use it as an amp/speaker player that way. Or use it with a personal laptop (as opposed to company property) running SC, wired directly, and thereby get the full benefit of the front panel interface and lossless music files. -- Dogberry2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dogberry2's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18883 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62837 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
