Yes, both the computer and the SB can be connected wirelessly. As you are aware, you could run into throughput issues with a "double-hop", but it can be done.
Have you gone through the setup procedure for the SBR again? I know that if you do things the other way (ie, starting out with the SBR wireless and then choosing a wired connection instead) you need to re-do the configuration from the beginning. Just sticking the ethernet cable in the SBR doesn't make it switch over to wired. I don't know for certain, but it's possible that the same is true in reverse: the SBR might not kick over to wireless by just pulling out the ethernet cable.
