Well, I think I've discovered the main issue that was preventing the SBR from finding SC on my computer: When my computer was wired to the router, I didn't have to set the lan_network_address on the SBR (just the lan_gateway was enough). But when the computer is wireless, both have to be set to the IP address of the router.
On the other hand, I'm still having occasional connection problems which I think are related to the wireless performance of my 4-year-old, not exactly high-spec computer. They are usually solved by having Windows repair the wireless connection (despite the fact that it is already functioning).
