There is a strange solution and it looks like it relates to your ISP and
connectivity.
Rather than ping - nslookup is better as it gives more info.
IT would be usefulto try the nslookupo on your PC - on my (non UK) PC I
get the following.
The name www.bbc.co.uk resolved to www.bbc.net.uk

>nslookup www.bbc.co.uk
Server: 192.168.1.254
Address: 192.168.1.254#53
Non-authoritative answer:
www.bbc.co.uk canonical name = www.bbc.net.uk.
Name: www.bbc.net.uk
Address: 212.58.253.68
--------------------
Whereas bbc.co.uk resolves just to bbc.co.uk - a different IP address.
