Wait a moment.
I am talking about TODAY.
TODAY, I have material that is 96/24. That material can only be played
natively by my Transporter.
All my other Squeezeboxen play it through downsampling on the server
side and I had to find out that my Via C7 server is only capable of
doing one of those at a time. Same with AAC.

Absolutely no problem. The synchronization is being done within the
device's audio processing. Works perfectly, independent of the source
material.

For formats a device can't play natively (AAC, 96/24, ALAC, WMA): yes.

The compatible formats are the ones that work that way.
However, SqueezeCenter can also play formats that are NOT compatible
through downsampling or transcoding.
It's a feature, not a bug.
