I noticed that almost all the radio stations on SqueezeBox server are on Radiotime and in this format.

This causes SBS to start transcoding the AAC to FLAC creating unnecessary processor load on the SBS server. You can tune in a URL like this http://opml.radiotime.com/Tune.ashx?id=s22199&formats=mp3&partnerId=16 and get the mp3 stream. But then you need to have custom URLs for all your stations.
