None of the players was connected to mySB.com, but is interesting that
the Radio and SB ended up behaving the most oddly, initially refusing to
get music from the configured SBS library. IT does indeed sound like
something somewhere covertly reaches out to mySB.com even when the user
tries to get keep it all home. And it makes sense this would happen
during configuration of a new device, especially since I am an
enthusiastic Pandora user and the Radio had to be told by something,
somewhere what my Pandora userid and password are... and that
information is stored via mySBS.com...

So my question is - would Pandora still work if I block the mySB.com
addresses? Pandora (and a horrible local radio station my gf likes) are
the only things I access outside the SBS music library.

Indeed I think those who claimed that this was primarily mySB.com
related got "it" faster than I did. I now feel a lack of synchronization
and issues in settings between sbs and mysb.com caused this.

And yes, a clean, forward-compatible way to protect and restore
settings is a must at this point in time. I now have 7 squeezeboxes in
the house. And with every new software update or every new box I add I
run the risk of obliterating a lot of hard work that went into
configuring these. Yes, I *do* backup my stuff. The problem here is I am
not given a tool to back up my boxes configuration settings, they sit in
an obscure, undocumented system file that lacks the flexibility to cope
with incremental changes. It's a binary "status quo cast in stone" or
"start from scratch" proposition.
