Yep, I think you've forgotten the step of turning on smart gain within SbS. The replaygain tags do nothing if the player isn't told to use them. This is even true within foobar2000 (where there is a setting to use either track or album gain). Go into SbS, then SETTINGS, then PLAYER tab, then select AUDIO, then VOLUME ADJ/REPLAYGAIN. I think you need to do this for each of your players. The idea behind smartgain is that it will use track gain volume adj when playing random mixes and album gain volume adj when playing entire albums. edit: p.s. there are not really any setting you need for adding the tags with foobar2000. It may need to know whether you want both album and track tags (which you do).
