Yes, they've always been independent, but when one drops the other seems to, as well, even if one is on and the other off.
I still suspect there's something different about the way the 2Wire Gateway/Router handles keep-alive messages back to MSB that makes MSB drop the connection. When I turn on the SBC it's like it "wakes up" the connection again for both. I'd consider getting a new modem, but this six month old one didn't have this problem until the latest SB update, and I'm hoping whatever the new problem is will be fixed.
