Before spending a lot of money on buying one (or more) Squeezebox
receivers I thought I would give things a try using a software client
(SoftSqueeze). Of course, this doesn't exactly model the desired end
result - I want to get away from using the computer itself to play
music/Internet radio, but seemed like a good way to test the
functionality.

Problem #1 was that I tried to install the squeezebox server on Centos
5.5. it fails upon startup. There seems to be no clear answer as to why
after a couple of days of Googling, other than that it probably requires
Perl 8.10 minimum rather than 8.8.1 as specified on the website. Centos
5.5, of course, has Perl 8.8.8 and no prospect of moving up for quire a
while. it was disappointing and disconcerting to see the basic
documentation not match reality and no apparent effort to fix the
situation. Not a good start.

Installed the server on XP. That worked fine, and I was able to get
softsqueeze up and running.

The relationship between the locally installed server and
mysqueezebox.com doesn't seem to be explained clearly anywhere. There
obviously is one.

Installed the BBC app, and it worked with no problem.
So far, able to play my local music collection, play various Internet
radios, and get BBC (UK) programming. Good so far, 90% of my
requirements seem to be met.

Last test, the Pandora app.

No clear explanation of why my Pandora login isn't sufficient, but need
a "code" too. But ... play the game ... got the code, go to Pandora and
enter the code, apply it to my login. Back to SoftSqueeze.

Now it says "You must be a subscriber to use Pandora from this
device".

Subscriber to what? I am a subscriber to Pandora, and have duly entered
my credentials and "code".

Restart the local server - same.

Look in server logs - nothing.

Point softsqueeze at mysqueezebox.com - same result, except that can't
play streams from the BBC app.

Delete the account from the Pandora plugin, delete the plugin.
Re-install the plugin - back to a prompt for setting up the code.

Do it again - same result.

Don't remember if it was the local server or mysqueezebox.com, but from
one of them you can play stuff - tried registering the app from there -
this time it gave a different code. Tried that. Same result.

Read somewhere that you have to wait a few hours for the account info
to percolate through both systems. Waited a day. No difference.

So ... can't use Pandora. Hmmm...

Any suggestions as to why? Does this actually work for other people?
Anyone ever solved this particular problem before?

Maybe it just won't work with softsqueeze???
