short answert for FLAC: yes I'm planning to support it natively. The

All local playback (also FLAC, AAC and the rest) uses the stream.mp3
URL. Even your SqueezeBoxes.
Compared to calling the stream.mp3-URL from the browser there is still
a huge difference of course.  SqueezeBoxes (and SqueezePad) use a
second communication-channel which tells the players when they should
start/stop/cache/preload and reconnect to a certain stream.

Very cool system overall, like my Squeezeboxes even more after I
understood how it worked.
