Hi I discovered that the network switch my server was connected to was in a strange state and dropping packets. After a reboot the problem now appears to have been resolved. I suspect I may have to replace the switch as a couple of years ago it stopped working for several weeks, I was about to throw it out and thought I would try it again one more time and it's been working from that point until now.
