It's even more so in iPeng.
The original sizes provided by the server are simply insufficient on any high resolution device, I always found them to be too small even on NON-RETINA iPhones, let alone iPad! > > Of course the bandwidth is the true limiting factor. > Not at all. SqueezePad's images are much smaller than the ones iPeng (for iPad) uses (less than half the size) and even for iPeng bandwidth is not a factor at all except over bad 3G connections. The issue is that as soon as you need ANY other size than the pre-generated one, the server has to take the original image and re-scale it. As of my experience it doesn't really matter to which size it re-sizes then, it's the process itself that matters. So as soon as you go to a high-resolution display, you either use badly looking images - that really sucks, there's a reason they went to the high resolution with the new iPad, it was really the weakest point of the old ones. Or you use smaaaaaallll artwork. For what you can get from the server without rescaling we are talking some 7mmx7mm (~0.25"x0.25") artwork on an iPad 3 here, even smaller on iPhone 4 (5mmx5mm, 0.2"x0.2"). Before you do that it's probably better to not show artwork at all. So at some point you WANT to scale and if you have to scale anyway, then you can as well go straight for a decent size, then memory on device becomes the real constraint. Plus it's really a one-time issue unless you clear and rescan your library every day. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80553 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
