Make sure you get decent logs of a couple of minutes as sometimes it can take time for sync process to settle down. After each change save and then clear the log and note what you did so that if you need to re-examine it you know the circumstances.
The logging gives some indication on what is happening. If you change any of the sync params you should redo the logging and look what is happening.
