Judy, the problem is that Apple made it almost impossible for App developers to still supply Apps for old (1st and 2nd generation) devices. They removed all support for them for the current generation of their development tools. And you need to use these tools if you want to be compatible to iPhone 5 (if you want to support the screen size). That's the reason why almost no Apps are available for the old devices anymore.
