That's what I figured. And now I am even more disgusted by there being no real backup for Android phones. I came from Windows Mobile and I had REAL backups from which I could restore the entire phone or individual pieces. At least with Android phones you can install otherwise than through the playstore, so this confirms that I do need to actually do the app backup. App backups are not real backups (what about my data), but now I know why I need app backups.
