Not sure about fair or not fair. Businesses make decisions all the time that are good for some and bad for others. Logitech certainly should be held to meeting any legal contractual obligation they have for supporting products they've sold (which might be keeping mysb.com alive for 2 years), but otherwise they can make any decisions they think are best for their shareholders. But I also don't see the "worthless" argument. First, these devices are not "investments". They are products to be used until they don't work any more. And with LMS running on a local PC/NAS, these devices can work for many, many years. With local LMS, I can listen to all my own music, I can listen to internet radio (where I have the URLs saved as favorites), I can use Spotify (with Triode's plugin). If mysb.com shut down tomorrow, I'd lose ability to listen to siriusXM and Pandora and I assume I'd lose the ability to scrobble my played music to last.fm. But I'd have 99% of the benefits I currently have. But the key of course is that I never use mysqueezebox.com as the actual server. I have LMS running on a 24/7 server (vortexbox). I'm so confident of continued benefit from the squeeze system, that I picked up 3 extra Touches and 3 extra radios when they announced the discontinuation. p.s. I do know several users of Booms, Radios, and even Touch players that have no idea that LMS even exists, and strictly use a connection to mysb.com to stream Pandora or internet radio. mysb.com going away will be a real shock to these folks. On the other hand, if that's all they were doing, moving to a SONOS player with a built in speaker will be seamless for them. For me it would be painful (I have too many tracks, they have too large artwork, the general quality of the Sonos digital out is not at the level of the Touch, much less my Transporter, and none of the SONOS units really work as a bedside radio (who wants to look for their smart phone in the middle of the night to turn on the radio to play for a half hour while one drifts back to sleep; and heck, I'm not even sure the SONOS has a headphone jack). ------------------------------------------------------------------------ garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98208 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
