Now to open up the can of worms, someone mentioned a "power light" on the front panel.
Putting a simple light on the front panel that is hooked directly up to the power input is a piece of cake. BUT people are notorious for not liking that. Its the wrong color, its too bright, its too dim, it has to auto correct for the surroundings etc. It needs to be on a timer so it goes off at night..... I could put a tri color led on the front panel and hook it up to 3 pwm outputs from the processor and let the users fight over how it gets controlled, but then it becomes a "the cpu is up and running and the led control software is loaded" rather than a simple power light. And then the moment I put any indicator on the front panel, the floodgates open and I won't be able to keep it to just a power light, there will be hundreds of requests for every type of indicator, screen etc. And I'm trying to prevent that for the first board. I REALLY REALLY want to keep the first board to a black box player, with external control and display, anything else is going to radically increase the time to market and I don't want that to happen. So given that rant, do I still put a power light on the front panel?
