The actual gain adjustments happens in the player itself not the server . The player gets the rg info from the server and does some internal stuff to adjust , like a normal squeezebox . It is the squeezebox itself that adjust its output the actual stream is the same in any case . That's the good thing with rg tags it does not touch the actual audio it's just meta information to a player to adjust its volume. All the magic is in the player end .
