Neither. The Bluetooth stack needs to support the codec. Apps can't
change Apple's Bluetooth stack so if iPad doesn't support the codec, you
can't use it.

Don't know about AptX but please be aware that AirPlay only supports
16/48 so if you use AirPlay, iOS will downsample your stream to that
(the 16 bit don't hurt as much as with other transmissions because
volume will be sent separately). The stream uses lossless ALAC.

Well, the iPad doesn't have a USB port so you need a Lightning-to-USB
adaptor. Also, the iPad has to act as a USB host. Lightning generally
supports that but whether your DAC is compatible is something I don't
know. AFAIK the DAC needs to be part of Apple's MFI program for that.

With the old iPads you could use the CCK but I am not sure that will
still work to full resolution (it might, I just don't know) since you
would put up quite an adapter stack (Lightning->30-Pin->USB).
