At the very first level, a Squeezebox replacement player that it
considerably less DIY than a solution like you mention. Only so many
people are capable of (or willing to) roll up their sleeves and assemble
a player like you've outlined. If it can be done and sold for a
reasonable price, then the number of people who use the Squeezebox
system and its software in the future would likely be many times what it
will be if DIY is the only option.
