Why don't you make this a configurable item. Some people will want the status bar, while others won't. It's impossible to satisfy everyone. But it is possible to come up with a compromise which is to make it configurable. I understand this means more work for you as a programmer though :-) Personally, I would love to see the status bar or at least the battery icon anyway. I use iPeng in the car a lot and there it makes a lot of sense.
