I picked a Chromecast Audio up at Best Buy today. Within minutes I had
it streaming Spotify. With a bit of searching I found the Localcast app
on the Android store and installed it. I then enabled the DLNA server
capability of LMS and a few minutes later I was streaming from my
network music library.

I have the Chromecast connected to my Burson DAC/amp using a digital
optical cable, right next to my Touch connected via USB. Initial
comparison says the Chromecast sounds pretty similar but further time is
needed to know for sure. It certainly doesn't sound bad.

A while back I borrowed a similar cast-enabled DLNA device called Beep
from my son and was able to "turn it into a Squeezebox" using
squeeze2upnp. It worked just like a Squeezebox. Able to control it from
any Squeezbox controller or app. The Beep had fairly poor sound quality
so I didn't pursue it any further.

I expect to be able to do the same squeeze2upnp thing with the
Chromecast but won't have time to experiment until Saturday. I can
report back if others are interested.
