I very much suspect that there is a problem with the connection to my ISP. There could be local issues as I am using Devolo Homeplug, but everything (including drops in general web browsing) suggests that the connection there is dropping and restarting enough to ruin iPlayer since the BBC changes. I've tried, as an experiment, moving my laptop close to the router (not convenient for regular use) and changing to wifi with no improvement. I am using a 2013 MacBook Pro, and have tried a couple of routers.
