After dabbling with squeezeplug on raspberry pi and o2 joggler devices I switched to buying Squeezebox original hardware on eBay. Had problems with network and terrible music syncing, always drifting, on the home brew stuff.
Since switching to a system of booms and receivers the syncing is perfect. When weighing up time, effort, quality and reliability of end result I'm happier with the first party hardware. The raspberry pi makes a great LMS however.
