Some routers are heat sensitive , my old linksys wrt54gl was ? Yes in general,router placement can make big difference and also how the antennas are directed . Some routers allow for different placement on the side instead of flat on its bottom etc , worth experimenting with , and its height above the floor .
One should try to get it in a central location in the home equidistant to all things and people that needs it .
