You could look at Crashplan. This allows you to back up in a variety of
ways including backing up to a remote drive which could be at a friend's
house or your work. It is a free service unless you select their cloud
offering. If you have a lot of data you can seed a backup at home and
then resume once you have moved the drive to a remote location. It works
nicely for me.
