I was partially correct. I did complete an update scan but NOT a delete database and total rescan as I first attempted.
If someone can tell me what cache files to delete, I'll attempt another "Clear library and rescan everything". BTW I have this as a stable setup for over a year and it has worked very well. Without the RAM disk, the "new music" function would be pretty useless. I have placed the rescan log in Michael's outbox.
