I think I may have figured out the problem, as others using the NAD 3020
digital amp have also experienced this problem too,  It appears that
when the NAD goes into standby, it powers off its USB port and thus
electrically disconnects from the Pi USB port, as if the cable were
pulled, so when I switch the NAD back on and try to play no sound, and
the only way to get it working is to restart with the amp powered on and
then it all works again.  Apparently this is something to do with a
hot-swappable issue, does that make any sense to anyone?
