This is why I would start with raspbian, add squeezelite, manage it as per raspbian, and add software as I pleased, the raspbian way. That will include lots of features out the box that you don't need, and will work just fine as a media renderer. IMHO it's probably harder to start with PCP and add what you need than to start with everything but lose the PCP focussed management interface.
