yep, given no playback equipment, and no money, an old phone with wifi,
a subscription to Spotify, etc. and a bluetooth speaker is probably the
best answer.  Even this "system" will be a major improvement on what
they have now (nothing).  

p.s. I had to smile about lack of any stereo stuff.  I can think back to
my younger, broke days when everything* I had would fit in a single
suitcase. But even then I had a Receiver, Turntable, speakers, and a few
crates of albums (today called 'vinyl').
