A few years ago I briefly experimented with Max2Play and concluded that
it was trying to cover too many bases and as a result required a fair
bit of configuration effort. So for the time being I stuck with
Vortexbox running on an old Acer Revo.

When I tried piCorePlayer on a RPi3 a couple of years back it was a
breeze to set up and the Vortexbox got retired. PCP seems specifically
aimed at the Squeezebox ecosystem and does it very well.
