Final bit. HLS and DASH can be used for video as well as audio. In theory both DASH and HLS allow for dynamic changing of "service" so that if for example, network gets busy & throughput goes down - invisible switch down to a lower quality/rate version so no rebuffering. Video streaming service such as Netflix does this. Well suited to mobile connections. There is a wide choice of audio codecs and "transports" within each chunk such as simple MP3, AAC (and a few others I've forgotten) and then MPEG2-TS (same a digital terrestrial/satellite) and also MPEG4. Currently in V2 the MPEG2-TS support - if video is present it is discarded (although not all stream are supported - I'm trying to fix one problem stream). I'm trying to add MPEG4 support which should also discard the video - in which case this maybe useful to the Mixcloud live service. HLS is a messy standard - it seem to be a grab bag of all formats and as such loads of possible combination. The MPEG4 support is based on streamed segmented MPEG-4 which is basically DASH compliant (so alot of ISO DASH is now in IETF HLS ). ------------------------------------------------------------------------ bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114181 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
