To me, this is progress, heal your mind (but challenge your liver) When I get stuck line this I start to swap and eliminate possibilitites, e.g. not only swap ethernet cables, but check the suspect one on another device. You are getting alot of help from some of the most experienced member, so I'll stay out of it unless I think of something unique. I did have two thoughts for now: 1) You could just hook up a monitor, mouse keyboard and load raspian per the raspberry pi "how tos" to see if your hardware seems to be behaving 2) I (or others) could build you a known working SD card, piciore player loaded and drop it in the mail, or, I could drop the image file into dropbox for you, you would then just have to burn it (we can give you directions). This way, we determine if it's hardware or SD. I am in the US, Northern New York and would be happy to do either.
