Many providers of radio streams have gradually introduced more and more
geographical restrictions over the last years. This either means that
certain streams are unavailable outside of their local country due to
rights restrictions, or that a lower quality feed is offered to other
countries.

I understand well how this works for non-Squeezebox streaming, for
example when streaming video such as Netflix. But, when it comes to
hardware- and software-players in the LMS sphere, I am not so clear on
what the factors are that determine which streams are available to you.
There is your actual location and IP and your time zone, but also how
you connect to the radio stream – via squeezebox.com, RadioNet, TuneIn,
direct URL, BBC Sounds...

In my case, I specifically would like to see if there is a way that I
can listen to the same higher quality BBC Radio 3 stream as is available
in the UK, and not have certain BBC shows go silent at certain times.
But, I am also interested in understanding the underlying factors, not
just find a quick fix.

I suspect this would have been covered here in the past; I did some
forum searches to try to find answers but came up short. Does anyone
have some links?
