i'm running linux and I use the following plugin to shutdown the server from the remote. it has a user selectable delay from 5 mins to 1 hour so that you can use this as a sleep function, and to prevent someone accidentally shutting down the server immediately (i use the machine for desktop work).
I use the feature all the time and it works quite well. I even use it as a quick and dirty way of telling the pc to shutdown (green, save cost of electricity, not leaving machine exposed to hackers, etc) if I want to leave the house when it is in the middle of some background task (e.g. ripping cd, downloading files, rsyncing music folders, etc). See the following link: http://www.avdv70.dsl.pipex.com/shutdown by the way - am I missing something here? You mention being able to turn off your pc by pressing 1,2,3 on the remote. Is there some shutdown functionality built in already that I have missed? -- kefa Fedora Core 4, Slimserver 6.2.1, Netgear DG834GT Squeezebox 3, Primare SPA20, Monitor Audio GR20 Squeezebox 2, Denon UD-M30, Monitor Audio PMC703 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ kefa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=421 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=19803 _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
