Perhaps you don't need to reboot your wireless access point (WAP), but
it would be a good idea to reboot your router. Many WAPs are really
three devices: an access point, switch, and router, all built into the
same device. Many (most?) people use the routers that are built into
their WAPs, but even if you aren't using your WAP as a router, there's
surely a router somewhere on your network -- that's what's assigning IP
addresses and is allowing you access to the internet. So, as has been
repeatedly suggested, you'd be well advised to reboot your router (if
your WAP's not routing then perhaps you have a separate router? or
maybe you're using your cable or dsl modem as a router?) as well as any
switches on your network.

As has been mentioned, these are complicated devices that can behave in
surprising ways. Just because a certain type of traffic is making its
way between certain devices doesn't mean that everything is kosher.

Don't be so averse to just giving it a try--it isn't a particular
difficult or risky endeavor to reboot your network devices.

I'll also reiterate that you'll probably want to reset your SB2s again
before you send the update (do this by holding down the power button
for 5-10 seconds).
