You shouldn't want to. The only thing you should have in/around your ears while mowing are earplugs and possibly noise-reducing earmuffs over those. Turning up headphones to drown out something as loud as a mower is a sure path to hearing loss. An alternative, if you don't have an enormous lawn, is to get a mechanical push mower. I've had mine since I moved out on my own (about 7 years ago) and it works great.
