They also form the make up of Ilizarov and Taylor Spatial frames... 
but even then the names vary from one side of the pond to the other!
Lets all see where the name fits in our daily practice!! :)

I vote for calling them "length of stuff that allows me to get sound
from one piece of gear to another" - but I doubt it will catch on!!!
