I think lots of people do - I've been using uncompressed WAV for years,
to a mixture of SB1, 2 and 3. Even an 802.11b connection should be able
to run a couple of streams at once with no drop outs. 

You need a good signal, so check the signal strength and add
amplification if it's not high enough, and change the channel if you
suspect you're getting interference. Also, despite what I said about
11b use 11g if at all possible (which means ALL the devices on the
network have to be 11g). If you still have problems take a look at the
performance monitoring tool in slimserver to see exactly what the
problem is.
