*Sometime?* How about every single time for the last 5 years? I don't game, maybe flash is useful there, but otherwise, I've never, *ever*, seen a flash implementation of anything that wasn't significantly irritating and in my way. I've visited web sites for celebrities and rock bands that use flash. They are forever re-inventing absolutely everything, so that the entire idea of a visual metaphor is lost. You can't figure out what anything is. The scroll bar is really a snail, the close button is an angry dwarf, the indicator for the scroll bar is the same colour as the rest of the scroll bar, so you can't actually get any visual feedback for how far along you are in the text. After a while, if everyone who designs using the tool looks like they were on drugs when they did it, you get the idea that you need to be on drugs to use it or appreciate it. When I'm working, I usually will close any web site that opens in flash. Experience shows I will usually waste more time than the knowledge I was seeking is worth having to learn an entire new visual paradigm. Thumbs up and down for the scroll bars, snails, dwarfs, exploding stars, give me a break. If there exists another web site that will give me even close to the same information, I will go there instead. Oh, I've seen some nice greeting cards in Flash. But I don't need to interact with the greeting card, so any visual clues that were lost on me were also immaterial to my usage. That being said, if someone wanted to write such a thing in Flash, I wouldn't object. I might even use it, if it worked well. As you say, bandwidth wastage is not a problem on a local net. But it wouldn't be my first choice, and I'm sure it would have some significant prejudice, from me and many others, to overcome first. -- Michaelwagner ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Michaelwagner's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=428 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25321 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
