Unlike the PC calculations, this one makes economic sense.  CFs are
down to $5 now and last ~7 years.  The way I use mine, each one pays
for itself in about 10 months in power savings.



So, are you actually seeing that sort of life time? When I bought my house 4 years ago, all the light bulbs had just been replaced with $15 13 watt CF's. They lasted more like 7 months, and got replaced with 40 watt incandescents on dimmer switches. These also last about 7 months, but produce much nicer light. Ecological has got to make at least some economical sense too. I'm fine with the trade-offs in my Prius, but I draw the line at paying 100x for an uglier hall light :)
