It's expected. Validation is a very resource intensive process, which is why Predixis suggest leaving it to run on your PC / box on overnight.
The following may help speed up the process: Close all other non-essential programs and shut down any non-essential services; Change processing setting from Low (default) to Maximum (although this may well render your computer useless for any other tasks until validiation is completed); Leave on overnight. Also, you will probably find that the validiation takes place in "leaps", 20 songs will take 10 minutes then suddenly it will get though 250 songs in 10 minutes.
