I believe Mark posted in good spirit, and wasn't trying to do this, but
this thread is a borderline troll for flame responses from Open Source
proponents. You're really missing the point and spirit of Open Source
development, and I hope some of the responses have done something to
clear that up.

Some key points:
Contributing to an Open Source project is not mandatory.

People that contribute to Open Source projects usually are motivated by
things other than money.

Code is GPLed, which means it is not owned by Slimdevices, and can be
distributed at will.

Significant contributors to Slimdevices code receive things like free
squeezeboxen in the mail. I've got an SB3 in my living room to prove
it.

Also, last time I checked, Slimserver is FREE, and it can be used
without paying a dime for a squeezebox (or, metaphorically, a dollar
for a transporter).

Also consider that Slimdevices has been contributing portions of their
profits on Squeezeboxen to the Electronic Frontier Foundation. The
http://www.eff.org fer cripes sakes! This is not a company that you can
fault for greed. It's just unfounded criticism.
