The remote control aspect of the Philips product and uPNP bit are separate functions from what I can tell.
You install the Philips media server on your PC and you can stream audio to the actual remote for playback. It has a headphone socket for use as a portable audio device. There's nothing to stop you installing this software and pointing it at the same music directory as your Slim box is configured to use. Don't know how great the streaming would be over it's 802.11B wireless adapter. My PSP struggles to stream using it's 802.11B adapter. It isn't able to stream 224Kb VBR MP3's without break ups.
