Hi - I've been following this device for about 6 months and have been monitoring the status of gapless playback of mp3s. iPod introducing support for gapless playback of LAME mp3 files seemed to light a fire under the Slim Devices developers and they have fixed in in the hardware. I hope this trend extends to other manufacturers.
I plan on purchasing a SqueezeBox (a good thing to put Christmas money towards :-), but I also have applications in my house for playing over the network to another computer. Using both SoftSqueeze and foorbar2000 (via the URL http://[host]:9000/stream.mp3) I notice gaps between the tracks. This means to me that the server is not processing the LAME tags and it is not passing them along to the far end player. I suppose it can't pass them along to the player since it is playing a stream and not individual tracks. I know for a fact that foobar2000 will play LAME mp3 gapless. In this case, the server should be building a gapless stream (based on my understanding). Any suggestions on how I can play LAME mp3s gapless using a software player? Would this be the subject of another feature request? If there is another thread that discusses this, please let me know. My searches for gapless and mp3 directed me to the thread which discusses the hardware fix. BTW, I am using the latest nightly build of 6.5.1. What an awesome device this is!!
