There are a few things going on here. Firstly, it's my understanding that the server doesn't have any specific knowledge of lame tags. When using a hardware player it includes the frames which contain the tags in the stream, the player then reads them and controls when it skips to the next track, enabling it to be gapless. Softsqueeze gets the same data (as it's also a slimproto-based player) but doesn't currently read those headers. I'm not aware of any reason why it couldn't, that would just be an enhancement request.
On the other hand, when streaming to a non-slimproto player (like foobar) the server is munging the individual files into one long stream which is being sent to the player. For this to be gapless the server itself would have to be able to read and understand the lame tags - and again while that's possible it's not something which is currently done. Whilst I really appreciate the fact that the players read the lame tags (and I think it's a good selling point) my standard advice is that if you really want gapless playback you should be using a more gapless-friendly format like vorbis or flac. -- radish ------------------------------------------------------------------------ radish's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=77 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=30753 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
