Or it is simply to get it into people's heads (and advertising... retailers rarely give space to things not "on sale" in their sale brochures...) in the week before Christmas, knowing full well that if people like one squeezebox they will like 2 or 3 even more. If Slim was trying to unload supply, they would be doing something like their White Sale.
