It was partly down to the WAF - I'm afraid. Putting the equipment under
the stairs meant no large boxes and no noise (at all). Secondly I have a
rack system (home build), that also has to accomodate a 16 port switch,
16 port patch panel, and digital home security system all of which is
rack mounted. So it kind of made sense you see.

The area is well vented - and I have allowed for a half U space between
each component. Though I appreciate the worry of heat issues, I don't
think I will have too much cause for concern, there is little intensive
disk activity going on with the current server (a Small Form Factor PC -
Shuttle). Of course I will let you all know when the system packs in
because of heat, so you can gloat!!! :)
